Will Marno, Towy Pottery

Hi boys n gurls - another from a box of bric a brac. I bought a lot of Royal Worcester egg coddlers and this was one  some general stuff that came with it

It looks like a backward r or maybe an RK or KR - any pointers appreciated

I have a nice 6.5" wide dish but cannot place the mark. If you have any ideas it will be much appreciated

Maybe a T for Towy Pottery

Thanks for your input, not sure it looks like a T.. It very similar work to some coldstone pieces but obviously not. Thing that grabs me its very good quality

Yours for comparison, looks like the top of the T is a bit squashed

The shape and glaze would indicate Towy - it looks like a Will Marno piece. The stamp looks like an early stamp (1970s) poorly impressed.

Saltglaze pot with lid 6.5in with a mark rather like a Celtic T. Or could be a C. Thanks.

Undoubtably Towy Pottery, but stylistically very unlike Will Marno, so probably by one of the several other potters who also worked there. By the way it is not saltglaze. Probably glazed over an iron slip which has dribbled and not been tidied up (also not like Will Marno)

I’m hoping someone can help with this because Google comes  up with exactly zero results - I associate Marno with Towy pottery which is certainly not England!

I think it's by Will and Clare Marno who were based in Suffolk in the 60s before moving to Wales and setting up Towy Pottery in the early 70s

This is the style of pottery made by Will Marno in Hadleigh prior to moving to Wales. This style of pottery was also made for Marno's Food Reform Restaurant in Ipswich in the 1960s. The restaurant was run by Bill (as he was known at the time) and his then wife Hazel. A vegetarian wholefood restaurant way ahead of its time!
I played guitar in an acoustic trio called Three Part Thing who were booked to perform in the (packed) restaurant every Saturday afternoon, so got to know the Marnos well and later worked in the pottery in Hadleigh and then at Towy Pottery in Rhandirmwyn for a while.

Hi, I'm sure I've seen this pottery mark before. It looks like C, but the top section is straight. Any ideas? Best regards Pugmill
