Yeah, the mark on the base should be impressed.
BTW, i came by this cup which i suspect is by Barrie Linfoot. But it's very confusing because i spotted a so-called Bernard Leach teaset in one of the Millers books with almost the exact same shaped cups, it didn't have the embossed pattern around the side though. Probably misidentified maybe.

Well it's definitely not a Leach, St Ives, cup. I'm not familiar with Linfoot's work but it doesn't look like his mark in the book. Just going by the style and clay I'd have thought European pottery; maybe French
