Lamp Bases with AW mark
H1 All
Sorry to be vague, but I have come across a pair of lamp bases that I believe are Alan Wallwork....but the didnt look style wise like anything else I can find
I took a number of images but for some reason only one from a distance is on my phone, so probably fat thumbs on my part)
I have cropped an image taken from a distance and you can see one of the vases which are like treacle glaze, around a foot or more high and around 6 inches square with decorative stem for the bulb holder. They have the incised AW mark on the base
Any help or opinions would be most appreciated.

Re: Lamp Bases with AW mark
Hi, (terrible photo ) I would say probably no, there can be plenty others with AW mark. I tend to be guided by the quality of a piece rather than just the mark and what you sorta have there is not typical of Alan's work.
Did you get a picture of the base or the mark as that would be the best way to be more certain.
Wait a bit as others will probably comment also.

Re: Lamp Bases with AW mark
Not Wallwork's, imo. I wonder if it's production pottery with a decorator's mark.

Closest I can find is Annette Welch but I’m not sure this is her style of pottery

Re: Lamp Bases with AW mark
Nothing to do with Alan Wallwork and, if you are thinking of buying them to re-sell then you would be crazy to do so. Brown is out of fashion even for the best ceramics and stylistically these are pretty poor.
If you want them to use then fine.

I was thinking of buying for myself but seller is asking silly money in my opinion

Re: Lamp Bases with AW mark
Should add that Wallwork's marks were handwritten where as this is a stamp. I've edited the title to add the mark and remove Wallwork

My opinion is that anything more than a tenner for the pair would be silly money.
For future reference, lamp bases should always be cheaper than pots of a similar size by the same potter. For example, I know that there are many collectors and dealers looking for and wishing to buy Alan's work at the moment but only a very small percentage of them would consider a lamp base.
This is my Wallwork one that we have had for around 25 years.
