Re: Übelacker (Ü Keramik), Germany
I'd guess at Bay Keramik around the '70s.
The number on the base will be 328/8; 328 being the shape number, the 8 is the height in cm.

Re: Übelacker (Ü Keramik), Germany
Thank you, Volker.
I've been trying some searches on 'ubelacker', 'uebelacker' and 'u keramik', but no result untill now. Sometimes I did find a vase that had a glaze that slightly looked like it, but not close enough though.
The way the vase is marked has some resemblance with the way Übelacker did that usually I found out. Is that enough proof for this vase being an Übelacker? :-)

Re: Übelacker (Ü Keramik), Germany
try "Ü Keramik" (with Umlaut) on Google with quotation marks, click on "pictures",
and search for jugs / handled vases
1000 range vases
1500 range jugs / handled vases
e.g. 1717, 1723, 1737, 1741, 1747, 1748, 1749, 1756 ...
markings consistently with comparatively tall numbers on top of the base, no origin marks like W.GERMANY etc., enough copies with Ü stickers to be quite sure.

Fat Lava Übelacker 551-15
A piece from the auction 'job lot', but know real idea of maker.
I think I've got the numbering right as 551-15 (from what I've read about their 1's and 7's, but I could be wrong and it may be 557-75 - but I'm sure someone will correct me if needs be. I've found one reference to a vase of this numbers being by Scheurich, but no pic's and I've been unable to find any other examples of this design or shape to confirm this.
But I know one (or more) of you guy's and gal's will know.
Unfortunately this one does have a chip to the base, but hardly shows even when seen from that side and it's the other one I rather like, so it doesn't matter as I'll probably keep it. Some wonderful colours to it.
Height is 15cm.
Again, I'd love to have an idea of its age if anyone knows.
Thanks.

Re: Übelacker (Ü Keramik), Germany
I've now found a pic of a Scheurich 551 (but a different size number) and it was a totally different shaped vase - so I guess Scheurich can be ruled out.
I couldn't find any of that shape by Soendgen. Although I did see (to my eye) similar numbering by a couple of companies. But can't find an even remotely similar shape.
So still looking for a maker. Someone must have seen the shape before?
Volker - any ideas ??

Re: Übelacker (Ü Keramik), Germany
I´d say Übelacker, pretty sure.
"Someone must have seen the shape before?"
Yes, Ü Keramiik vases numbers 524 - 588 partly with formwise and glazewise
matching jugs in the 1700 & 1800 range, 1970s i think
- 551 over 15 and 552 over 18, matching jug 1832 over 30,
unusual markings though
- 559 / 15, matching jugs 1836, 1837
- 560 / 20 , matching jug 1844/20

Re: Übelacker (Ü Keramik), Germany
Many thanks Volker.
Looking at the posts on here in the U Keramik thread, I can see the same style of numbers. Also, although different - I can see a similarity of form to the red & white jug on page 3 (3rd post from top).
I still can't find this exact shape number anywhere on the Net. Does that mean it's rare or just such a new collecting field that most of it hasn't had their pic's posted?
Dispite it's slight damage I'm increasingly loving this and have a 'horrible feeling' that this and my D&B vase might be forming the start of a collection

Well, there was once another copy and and jug 1832 is a close match.

Re: Übelacker (Ü Keramik), Germany
Ed, i see three groups
1. pots 534 & 539 in the Söndgen thread have a white clay and are marked "Made i. W.Germany"
Pots 534, 535, 537, 539 with these marks can be attributed to Übelacker / Ü - Keramik;
pots 535 & 537 are known with Ü stickers.
2. vase 106/25 with white clay was attr. to Söndgen, rather unlikely imo.
3. other pieces attributed to Söndgen have a pink-ish
clay and are sometimes marked "Made in W.Germany"
Where is the proof ?
