hans hedberg
a recent find hans hedberg best known for his huge fruit ceramics swedish but worked in biot near vallauris
Yellow bottle vase, signed - Hans Hedberg, Sweden
Picked this up at an antiques shop near Farnham. Because of the numbered sticker on the base I suspect it's by a amateur potter who's had a display at a local art & craft fair, but I'd be grateful if anyone can read the signature
I think it's supposed to be this way up -

Re: hans hedberg
I'd be inclined to think it says "Italy".

Re: hans hedberg
Interesting suggestions. Not sure it says Italy on the base, and it's a dark grey/black ground which I don't think is common for italian pottery.
I was hoping it was W German, but, again, I can't see 'Fohr' in the word written on the base. And wouldn't it have the numbers that are commonly stamped on the base of W German pots rather than just a word and a sticker?
I think the jury's still out on this one.

Finally found it. Came across a similar one by accident while looking for something else.
It's a faience vase by Hans Hedberg, Sweden (1917-2007)

Hans Hedberg, Sweden (1917-2007)

He studied at Faenza in Italy in 1947-48 and worked with an unbound form language with different glazes. At first, he worked mostly with pottery but has later become known for its exquisite sculptures, mainly fruits and eggs in a high-fired earthenware in different sizes, from small eggs up to one meter high garden sculptures. Taking inspiration from nature, he experimented constantly with new glazes, where the glaze also got to decide the shape

I don't know why that makes me laugh but it does. I love his sponge and his apples, but definitely wouldn't have room for a big one.
