Small Planter or Cup? Marked Gres Empty Small Planter or Cup? Marked Gres

Hello, this piece is marked "gres" which I believe means stoneware. Any ideas on maker or what it might be for would be much appreciated - it's 6cm tall. Thank you.

Gres is stoneware, looks like a trial piece
