Re: Denby Majolica but what's it for?
Nobody has a definitive answer on these. They often turn up as a set.
Propping open sash windows, raising furniture off a damp floor?
Not quite right for candlesticks, too big for napkins, a stand would have a flat top.
One day someone will state the obvious, and we'll wonder why we never thought of that!

Thanks DD, I reckon a stand of some sort. I thought you would be a cert for the definitive answer......so I'm no nearer the truth! We'll see if any other suggestion turns up. Cheers!

A stand for some kind of rounded bottomed jardiniere?

I would go for window prop thingummies, especially if they often come in sets. They did make ceramic ones in Victorian times tho’ the ones I’ve seen have been squarer. Or for lifting furniture up.

Looks like a plate stand to me - to make your ordinary plate into more of a centrepiece raised platter.

All interesting stuff! I will have all these thoughts in my mind and try and decide what the real use is. I have to admit the window prop sounds very possible as it is a very heavily built item. It would be very difficult to break and would stand a fair old weight. (or maybe the furniture support?...or perhaps....).
