The decoration round the neck points to Chinese Republic period (early to mid 20thC). The mark may be on the Gotheborg website of Chinese & Japanese marks

Re: Vase Looks like Kutani but not - Chinese republic period
The mark indicates 'Qianlong Nian Zhi' - Qianlong Period Make.
Qianlong was the period from 1736 to 1795. However, don't get too excited as this mark is very common and is still being used on Chinese pottery even now.
According to available sources, this 4-character mark was widely used on porcelain made in Hong Kong in the 1960/70s.

You can find it on gotheborg, as suggested before Coalman gave you the ID, but the mark is upside down. FYI.

Yes, correct. The photo was upside down. Just rotate it, as I did. Then it can be interpreted.
I reckon that about 50% of the photos of Chinese porcelain submitted to 20th Century are upside down.
When it is the right way up it means something, even to a gwailo like me.

Alex,
You have a very beautiful and unusual piece.
That is all that matters.
I will keep hunting to try and determine the usage of such.
