Lately it seem, in the general run of auctioneering Studio Pottery attributions are getting more unreliable. The link below is to a HANSONS  auction which does have sone decent pottery in it. Hansons now may branches in Derbyshire,Staffordshire and London, and generally run large auctions. So they are significant players. The owner is the funny chap with the glasses from BBC antique progs like Antiques Road Show.

Strange item, but the marks look right.

I don't think Hanson has ever appeared on the antiques roadshow but has built his auction business off the back of other tv appearances , these naff tv programmes like 'flog it' etc give much publicity to these auctioneers and they achieve some celebrity status this in turn attracts a lot of business, i had a discussion some time ago with a retired auctioneer and auction house partner and he said that 'flog it' was the best free advertising they could ever get. My point being is that many auction houses expand without the relevant expertise in place and it is often up to the vendor to give the description on entered lots and inevitably there will be miss attributions, I can't comment on the Seth Cardew piece as i am not familiar with his range of work but i do know that relying on marks alone can be dangerous. There is a dodgy Bernard Leach piece in saleroom.com at the moment.

I have just been browsing on the internet and there are vases by Seth Cardew showing similar decoration.
