Brother Thomas Bezanson Vase? Empty Brother Thomas Bezanson Vase?

Post by Wynyardr March 7th 2022, 4:47 pm

Hi there

Do you think this vase could be Brother Thomas Bezanson? The base looks to be initialled MV but I will try and upload some more photos so you can see why I think of Bezanson for this one.

Thanks

First photo out of the two is my vase and I added what I think the initials look like. Compared to a BTB base..some similarities with the V.

Due to copyright restrictions I will have to delete the photos copied off google. Members can use google images to see them if they google the name

In my experience, work by Brother Thomas has a lot of markings on the base because he was very interested in glazes. And he mostly used a white stoneware, where as yours looks like Cranks Clay (a grogg filled brownish clay) so I think it's unlikely your vase is by him

Thank you. I understand now about the stoneware vs clay.

A Google search for "Handmade Small Stoneware Sake Cup with Oxblood Copper Red Glaze by Marcello Dolcini" looks promising, but the MV initial is throwing me off for now. I will keep searching.

The Marks Project has a selection of marks by Brother Thomas.

I’m not sure what you’ve compared your mark to, above, is his mark. It looks like part of his annotations that he added to the base.
