Fred Yates

Fred Yates 1922 -2008, Fred was and still is a very popular painter in the primitive naive style, he worked in a number of places but we know him mainly from our meetings in St Ives where he painted for a number of years, many of his works can be seen online this particular work came from his studio sale in France about 2014, a largish painting about 35 inches x33 inches.

His naive paintings tend to be the most popular and the ones depicting seaside scenes St Ives , Brighton, etc seem to fetch the highest prices, he went to live in France where he painted gardens etc in a more vivid palette. What was the subject on your painting?.

fred Yates was painting around here in France , my wife met him when she was in the same village exbition , he advised her to use bright colours as "thats what people like"

Yes i can imagine him saying that, he was quite a character, many of his later works are extremely colourful.
