Re: Simon Kidd, SK mark
Shall I be controversial and asked whether it should be under the studio pottery thread?

Ha! You can try but I'll just move it back
I was chatting with a studio potter at Hatfield Art in Clay who makes slip moulded pots and she said they are treated as 3rd class citizens in the pottery world.
I removed the "3D" pottery part because I was confusing him with Jonathan Keep.

I believe he was taking orders for these shapes, after which the moulds would be destroyed.

Re: Simon Kidd, SK mark
So they are like prints - copies of the origin?
My point was probably not how they should be regarded in an artistic sense but that they were small scale production pottery in the same way as the factories of old in Stoke on Trent.
There's no right or wrong answer though.

Re: Simon Kidd, SK mark
Would it be any different to wheel throwing studio potters making standard ware?

Re: Simon Kidd, SK mark
It's perhaps opportune that I have made the comments above about this person, as I have just noticed that Erskine, Hall & Coe, that took over from Galerie Besson, currently have a solo exhibition of his work.
The exhibition pieces look very interesting to me and someone that occasionally buys from me, after visiting the exhibition, has written that he believes Simon Kidd to be the "most outstanding new maker that I have encountered in a very long while".
However, going back to my comments about whether this should be included under the "Studio Pottery" thread, Simon Kidd describes himself as an artist, rather than a ceramic artist, ceramicist or potter. Therefore maybe he would join me in suggesting you shouldn't have put him under the Studio Pottery thread.
Therefore the logic is that the white slip moulded pieces in Naomi's original photograph that she says he makes as "limited editions" as the equivalent of limited edition prints by 2D artists.
Next week I have been invited by an artist that uses clay to make sculpture to visit him to talk "wood-firing". There might be similarities.

Simon Kidd is apparently now based in Dublin, having moved from Galway where he began.

Emma Westmacott, Hannah Leigh, Jillian Riley... to name but a few, are all slip moulding studio potters. There are plenty out there. Some pieces you wouldn't realise were slip moulded rather than hand built.

I see these copies as being on the same level as art prints and assistant art
I tend to list production line wares as art pottery

I draw the line at 3D printed ceramics, but I’m sure they’ll have their day in the sun too, eventually
