Midwinter - DIY? Empty Midwinter - DIY?

Post by Evocative Vintage June 19th 2022, 4:20 pm

Hello,

I bought a couple of Midwinter serving plates at a local garage sale. They are painted with seafood etc and signed Jackson.
I can't find any association between Jackson and Midwinter -are these likely to be plain plates someone has decorated themselves? Or could they be samples?

It might well be the name of the retailer that sold them. There was a large Department store in Reading called Jacksons which had a number of branches across the South East

Has the look of a Terence Conran design of the 50s, but can't find another example.

I would say it’s an amateur painter using a midwinter blank…..and possibly they based there work on an already recognised design….The Glasgow girls used blanks for their work as did others….

I agree, and it's one of those that you see hanging on a wall in someone house and you you say "ohh your kids painted that really well" - and the reply is

"My husband did that"
