Cochiti Pueblo Indian pottery animals??

These are interesting… A group of painted clay animals. The clay is very soft and brittle, with a white over glaze and painted detail. I had thought that they might be from East Asia, (India)


but came across Native American pottery. Anyone have any ideas as to origin and possibly eta? Thanks

I doubt a Mexican pueblo would be making elephant figures?

Yes, it’s a good point. Probably why I originally was thinking Indian. The moon gazing hare is interesting… links with ancient cultures, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican as well as European.

Also the Cochiti pieces seem to have more (quirky) detail and pattern
