I have recently seen on Auctionet some pots of similar style and with similar marks which are stated as being by John Hillaby. I can't find anything about a potter with that name. Does anyone have any useful info?

The mark looks right. He's not in the Marks books or mentioned in Ceramic Review. The auction says 60s-70s which would explain why he's missing. Probably the family having a clear out, so I think I'd trust the attribution. The auction was in Crewkerne so likely to be someone potting in the Somerset-Dorset area
