WM MW 1961 studio bowl William Marshall?
Is this possibly his work or really not? No other mark other than this incised mark and date on base. The bowl is well made, not heavy, decoration is nice. I have no experience of his pottery but couldn’t see other stuff by him as similar. You said on the bill Marshall thread Naomi, that there had been dated examples in auction. As early as this or after he left Leach? Hopefully someone can look and say a yay or nay by the style and decoration etc.

It isn't by Bill and most probably a hobby potter but it is well thrown; trimmed and using professional glazes of the time, so could have been made at a professional studio potter's workshop.

Possibly by Martyn Webster. He had a similar stamped mark in the 80s but I don’t know when he started potting

Thank you Studio and Naomi. I was half tempted but I left it behind - and was wondering afterwards whether I’d missed something good. I’ll check Martyn Webster as I don’t want to make an expensive mistake in future.

Just to add, William Marshall was potting in St Ives at that time so his mark would have been accompanied by a St Ives stamp

Yes, definitely would have got it if it had a St Ives mark too!
