One last pot for today, a HUGE (38cm diameter) stoneware platter, very simple decoration but expertly thrown. Clearly signed White, but unfortunately Googling ‘White pottery’ doesn’t get you very far! I think probably mid-20th century. Any ideas about who White is? Thanks

I suspect it might be mass produced, and the signature is a pure Red Herring. The decoration looks too simple and the plate a little too uniform.

I think you are very probably right - the signature is very generic, and a Google lens search throws up lots of close matches in the . “put a random phrase on a board and stick it on the wall” type ornaments. Never mind, off to the charity shop it goes!

I think it's studio ware. Possibly from the US where signing pottery is very common

Thanks, Naomi - it’s definitely thrown, if it is US then I can’t find a record of the mark. It’s a nice piece, hopefully someone can make use of it in.
