Magdalene odundo
An interesting day of auctions. But the best still sell well. There were two lots of Odundo's in Lyon and Turnbull's sale today. Lot 302 went for £25,000. Lot 303 went for a whopping £180,000........

I will add that it was 31 and 225 with their pound of flesh added
Really helpful to add links for anyone talking bout auctions and sales.

Re: Magdalene odundo
Her work is sought after by collectors and museums alike and due to the scarcity in the market prices will only rise for her best pieces, this does not seem an exceptional amount compared to other works of art. Some time ago the Hepworth gallery paid £87,000 for piece which caused some raised eyebrows but now seems a real bargain, the piece sold today was not her most expensive sold at auction and she remains the most expensive living potter. She also embraces the art world with her installations.

Re: Magdalene odundo
I think that the secret of her work is that it appeals to a number of International market. Her ethnic origins help as well. Moreover her reputation as a potter in this country could not be higher. Her work has always had an important following thoughout her career, and it has never been cheap. It is the type of pottery you either love or hate, rather more on an emotional level than perhaps the cerebral attraction of potters like Coper and Rie.

Re: Magdalene odundo
The very strange aspect about her work is that it would be equally suitable for a film based in ancient times and in some si-fi movie from thousands of yeas in the future. It's perhaps that universal art that exists outside of time.
