Pair of Japanese pear shape vases
Don’t have much info on these vases and haven’t had much luck finding something similar. Believe they were acquired in the 1930s in Japan measurements are approx. 9” tall and 15” circumference at the widest point. Has clear marking at the base. Some of the decoration is done in gold detailing seems a bit less refined. Hoping to find out more about the age and if they are Japanese. Anything further would be much appreciated

Best place to look for the mark is on the Gotheborg website of Chinese and Japanese marks. They might be Chinese or Japanese copying Chinese.

An almost identical, but much more well executed, mark is on a Kangxi period vase sold by Sothebys in 2020 - with a pre-sale estimate of £3-400k!! So I think someone has simply copied a mark onto much later production pottery.
If you look up the sale on the 22 September 2020 and find lot 114 you’ll see what I mean…..
