That type of mark is more likely to be a glaze test mark rather than a potter signing a piece of work.

Thanks studio-pots. Looks like needle in a haystack time as far as IDing the maker from the pot!

Wondered if this written “G” was commonplace?

Although the glaze and stoneware body look very familiar, as both have been well used over the years, this doesn't remind me of being by a potter that I might have exhibited. If it is a glaze code, as I am suggesting, then these are either letters, numbers or a mixture of both when they occur. Some potters have used these codes more than others, with Richard Batterham coming to mind. However, whoever made your pot, it wasn't him.
To me the pot looks to have been made in the UK and, if the mark was the potter's signature, then it would be an extremely unusual way for a British potter to mark their work. That why my instinct is that it is a code. However, I could be proved wrong.

There also seems to be a firing crack in the bottom. Which would probably add further to the idea that it was a very competent potter experimenting.

Dear studio-pots and philpots
Thanks for taking the time to comment. Your experience and expertise are invaluable to a relative novice like myself. I consistently learn something new from your fantastic contributions.
There is indeed a familiarity and a dexterity of execution in this pot that made me think that the maker is of note. Initially I kind of toyed with the idea that this pot was made “in the manner” of the Leach School spurred on by the method of manufacture and the glaze and decoration but couldn’t come up with a candidate for the maker!
I hope that another similarly decorated pot emerges on the forum or elsewhere on the net!
Many thanks again!

Thanks Naomi for tracking this down! Is it permissible to ask you to share a link for this piece on the board? Thanks

Wonder of the cumulative visual info of the two pots both with same mark, albeit currently unknown, might shine some more light on potential makers? Appreciate it may still be a long shot but you never know!

It’s listed as an unknown pot on eBay. I’m breaking our rules by posting the photos but it’s better than posting an eBay link

Thank you Naomi. Frustrating when you find a quality pot - form and glaze - and the mark is an unknown!

It looks like a 60s-70s pot. A lot of unrecorded potters from that era

That’s a shame. Oh well, looks like another mystery maker of some ability!…
