Looks slab built, and rolled out on hessian sack cloth. That is a technique commonly used in Japan and by students in the UK. Of the two, I think it's more likely to be a student piece.

Jean Halstead who worked at Bath Pottery in the 50s had a JMH stamp, but not quite the same. Maybe her later work

Had a look at Jean Halsteads mark but I'm not too sure. Her work was nothing like this item. Many thanks.
