Koichi Hisamoto
Koichi Hisamoto was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1953. In the past I have spelt his name as Kouichi and have seen both versions elsewhere so am using the other variation this time as I do not know which is correct.
He began to pot in 1975 when he was making glazed wares, as an apprentice to the potter, Higashibara san. He trained with Shimamura Hikaru from 1981 when he began to make Bizen ware and built his own noborigama in 1988. More recently he has set up a new pottery and kiln, which he calls “Bizengama”.
