Re: Inuit Carvings
as these people join the modern world the examples of their lost culture will become more collectable, they can then buy it back and remember the times when they had land and an identity

Re: Inuit Carvings
I've seen a number of Shoni pieces recently, modestly priced. A good time to buy.

Seal. Argillite stone type points to Belcher Islands (Sanikiluaq)
Signature looks like ᔪᓯᐃᑭᓚ = Jusi ikila,
but actually IDed as Josie Eqilaq
Settlement: Belcher Islands / Sanikiluaq, Nunavut
(1960) — E9-2834
Mother and child in an interesting greenish serpentine rock
approx. 6.5" high x 4" wide x 5" deep
Via the Inuit Arts group -
"...in kitikmeot east like kugaaruk, Gjoa Haven and Taloyoak the most earlier carvers were given an idea to mark letter C with a circle around to protect copy writes. I remember because my father was Charlie Ugyuk Sr. Who was one of the well known carvers in this area and been ask by I think co-op management and Hudson's Bay."
Signed Pauloosheig? - probably Pauloosie
A pair of seals, unmarked
Carved steatite
Signed L Tookak? - Ifentified as Tuukak Qinuakjuak by his daughter

Re: Inuit Carvings
Some new Inuit pieces courtesy of ppcollectables . The last one, of a mother and child, is the biggest and heaviest I’ve bought; took ages just to a unwrap it.
Signed Silasie - believed to be by Silassie Tuki, (although Silasie Qunisiguk from Akulivik (d. 1980) has also been suggested). I thought it was a pair of Wrestlers but appears the second figure is being swaddled.
Carved steatite
Hunter with spear
Carved siltstone
Mother and Child. 12”x7”x6”
Identified as Simeonie Elijassiapik
Settlement: Port Harrison / Inukjuak
(1948) — E9-1611

Re: Inuit Carvings
Various pieces found while sorting out the bookshelves. I’m embarrassed to say I don’t recall buying the pair of seals and walrus, or the seal in the post below. Always nice to come across surprises like this
Walrus, signed Herb Pelkey
A pair of seals, by Levi Alashuak
Settlement: Akulivik
(1951) — E9-1965
Unsigned. Pictograph of a sled and reindeer. Might be Northern European
