12 1/4 inch maroon gilded lustrous plate with rams or ibexes
Please can anyone help me identify this worn but rather marvellous plate?
It is pinky-maroon in colour, 12 1/4 inches in diameter and has a gilded rim. It has a band of 3 repeated stylised leaves all round the edge. The centre features seated rams or ibex type animals with exaggerated curved horns, in three-fold symmetry, with a background of curled, stylised plants. The rams and plants are fractionally raised from the background (you can feel it with a finger nail) and the background is dulled in appearance so I wonder if some kind of acid resist technique has been used. Where the plate is scratched and worn, you can see white from under the glaze showing through. In the right light, the glaze is lustrous though in duller light this is not evident.
The back has no stamp but there is a WT in the gilding paint on the outer edge of the central raised ring.
Thanks in anticipation, Manda

Interesting plate. It looks like Victorian Art Lustre Ware. The firm that immediately comes to mind is Maw & Co. They produced loads of lustre ware tiles and pottery. The WT mark is interesting and implies an individual artist or designer. But it does not look like the very high level of quality of Art potteries like William De Morgan and Pilkingtons.
