Yogi de Beer.
Yogi de Beer is a leading South African potter, focused primarily on wine amphora, which he has been making for over ten years.
Each amphora is entirely handmade by Yogi on the potters wheel.
A 600 Liter wine jar takes Yogi a week to throw. The pot then has to dry, and be fired in a kiln that Yogi built himself specifically to accommodate such large pots. This kiln can hold three amphorae per firing. The entire process can take up to three months to complete a firing. As a result Yogi makes a very special, limited production of wine jars...just 20 a year.
Yogis Studio is itself an old Cape Dutch winery called Long Kloof, in Hout Bay.
