Terracotta bird shaped vessel
As the title says: a bird shaped terracotta vessel. Glaze on the inside and underside. It feels old to me, and looks potentially like ancient pottery, but I have no info on anything as I found it in a thrift shop. Does anyone recognise an item like this and know anything about its age or heritage? (Or is it just a home project that I have mistaken for something more interesting?)

Re: Terracotta bird shaped vessel
It looks like a handbuilt low fired traditional / provincial ware. Possibly Eastern European but I've not seen one like this before

Thanks Naomi, sounds like a possibility. The ugly bird intrigues me somehow, maybe because the lack of detail and smooth flowing lines on its head don’t seem to match the lines on its body and tail. I also think there used to be glaze (or another finish) on the outside, there is some residue, and a clear colour difference between lid and body, plus faint residual traces of colour (notably brighter red) here and there.
