Majolica? Something else? Maker?
The item I’m asking about was in our house when I was growing up. Long story, but I haven’t seen it for years, my parents are gone, and I’m trying to locate one. I have almost no pictures (and the one below is about the best I have) of the item I’d like identification for but I can tell you what I remember. It was about 7 or so inches wide and maybe 5 inches high. The unusual thing about this item is that it is very shallow - it’s maybe an inch deep before you see the glazed bottom…but the underside of the bottom was completely enclosed. I do not remember any stamps (not glazed on the underside). So most of it is hollow and from what I remember, it was fairly light. I’m not an artist but I’ve drawn what I’m describing. I think - but not sure - it could be majolica.
I’ll understand if you can’t help. Thank you in advance.

Any idea what the underside looked like? Was it it a sort of pink? Majolica is made of earthenware clay, and tends to be of pinkish or reddish colour when not glazed. It looks like bunches of grapes. The trouble with the photo is that it is very difficult to tell the quality of it. A lot of this work was done in Italy by many makers, and it can be of varying quality. Top names would be pottery like Capodimonte.

I’m almost certain it was not - I think the underside was white, so that would rule majolica out. I also don’t recall any makers marks but it’s been quite awhile and my recall in the smaller details probably isn’t the best.

I think your best bet would be to do a search on Etsy first, varying your terms but including the words grapes. Use words like Italian, Majolica, Capodimonte, porcelain Mintons. The scrolling through. Ebay is also worth a try.

Is it a lustre glaze?

It’s odd - I don’t remember it as a lustre glaze but it didn’t seem to be anything I had seen. It “looked” lustre but I can tell you it wasn’t opalescent. Does that make sense?

Do you think it might have been a low Jardinere stand, missing its pot?
