Re: Tree sculpture. Who and Why ?
Purely decorative. They look like pieces from the 1970's. Part of fashion trend for intricate, rather involved, highly detailed porcelain pieces that became very popular back then. Work of potters like Mary Rogers, Ursula Morley Price, Deidre Burnett. Mary Rodgers in particular is highly prized and priced, The critic and dealer Paul Rice coined the apt phrase 'frilly knickers' pieces for them.
They were much admired and copied, But its delicate and difficult work to do. Yours looks like such a copy.
For examples have a look at our Deidre Burnett thread

Many thanks - yes, definite influence from the Deidre Burnett pieces - though I think these are some sort of stoneware rather than porcelain.

Re: Tree sculpture. Who and Why ?
I think they are student pieces. Maybe by someone inspired by Deirdre Burnett’s work
