MC mark, dish with ferns. Michael Cardew? (not Carol Metcalfe)
I have recently had this plate appraised as the work of micheal cardew by a Hansons auctioneers specialist.
But wondering what you all think as I can't find anything similar...

Michael Cardew?
Hansons are not Studio pottery specialists. That is putting it politely! If this 'identification' is their general level. Then one is even less impressed/ Where do you start? Completely wrong style, wrong design, wrong clay, wrong dish completely wrong mark1 Michael Cardew always used a pottery mark to go with his personal one. Winchcombe, Abuja, or Wenford Bridge.
Sorry but, it is just not his.
This is a link to Michael Cardew work that has sold at Maak. They are now probably the leading studio pottery auction house. Clock on the various photos and you can see his mark. Equally, scroll down and you can see his work is nothing like this.

Michael Cardew?
Hey thanks new here..... I did question this as I couldn't find anything like this in his collections.
The front stamp looks like his....but the back definitely not!
Do you have any idea of the possible maker or origin as I'm stumped haha

Definitely not by Michael Cardew. Similar to Molly Curley’s mark but not her usual style

Back again after further research - MC mark
I have a plate/charger/decor that I had appraised by hansons auctioneers a few months ago.
I wouldn't normally use Hansons, but after emailing southerbys I was directed to them as they are doing a specialist pottery/ceramics auction this year and had the use of a previous southerbys appraiser.
It seemed the perfect timing! I rang handsons and was given an email address to contact the appraiser.
*I've been shot down in a previous post for mentioning Hansons which I thought was rude, please don't be rude, it's a process and that's where I'm at.
He emailed back he thought the peice micheal cardew and wanted to include it in the sale. Estimated start price of £300-500 with pre auction viewings and sealed bids.
Here's my issue, looking at cardews marks, the ones available are 1940s and with marks of the studios he worked from, I.understand this as I've had previous works by cardew.
Yet in in his biography he started with holland in the 1920s?
Are their earlier marks we are not aware of?
Did he change his material, practice and style over that 20 years?
It was suggested the work was by carole metcalfe.
I emailed carole and it's not her work, not even close to her stamp so here we are again!
What do you guys think? I'm absolutely torn as to put it in the sale as early cardew, but if it is.....then I might be making a grave mistake!

Hi 'again' did you read the text with this?
It states I've been in contact with carloe and it's not her work?
There are also no marks for cardew pre 1940?
I'm trying to find help...... repeating the same information is not helpful.

Ok, but it’s not Michael Cardew's mark or style of pot. This style of pottery is 1980s+ rather than 1920s. But if Hanson wants to sell it for £300-500 then go ahead. There maybe a sucker out there who'll fall for it.
