Horse signed Kate H, Claremont - Kate Horsman, maybe?
A couple years ago I found a large horse signed Katie H Claremont 1961. 14” long. After searching and searching I think it may be by Katie Horsman, done at Claremont College in California in 1961 (I believe she was in the US for a bit). I also have a cute “Katie H” horse pitcher from 1955. Any help is appreciated.

I’ve split your post from the Kate Horsman thread until the ID is confirmed

Katie Horsman - maybe!
Hello,
I think it is probably by Katie Horsman, although the signature/mark is neater, and different to that I've seen on her Scottish works. She often used a scrawled "H" in oxide brush, or incised. But the very emphasised cross-bar on the capital "H" is a thing she did, and the long cross-bar on the "t" of Katie matches her handwriting as well. She also liked making sculptural animal ceramics, especially birds and cats, but also cows. She was based in Edinburgh for most of her working life, but spent a lot of time in the USA, and lots of US potters came to Scotland as a result. Sheldon Kaganoff and David Cohen both came to work with her in Scotland, and both studied at Claremont in California with Paul Soldner, who was also a firend of Katie's. She definitely taught as a guest tutor in Scripps College, Claremont ,California in 1961, so this date fits.
Katie taught my mum pottery at Edinburgh Art College in the late 1940s, and they remained friends all their lives. I remember her a bit, but I wasn't so interested in pottery then, so didn't ask her any questions!
She also produced flat art - prints, drawings and paintings - it would be interesting to track down these online and see if any signatures can be found which match.
Hope this is of interest - will keep you posted if I can find out more...

Thank you very much! I’ve been searching for the maker for several years and I’m glad to finally know who made these charming horses.
