Space invader mark
I think when the impressed marks are almost completely filled with tenmoku glaze they take on the look of a space invader which I’m sure someone mentioned before….
Anyway four plates 22cm diameter about 4.5cm high same decoration 1 plate base & front together with the four marks (1 from each plate).
All suggestions / assistance gratefully received.
Thanks

Re: Space invader mark
I suspect it's the Leach St Ives Pottery mark, although the cross decoration isn't one I've come across before

Interesting I’ll give it some research.
Definitely not standard ware so it’s disappointing there isn’t a personal mark.
Thanks

Re: Space invader mark
Is that two marks? Or just two photos of the same mark? Reminds me of the work of Edward Hughes. There was a lot of his work at Adam Partridge some time ago, which I had a good luck at, and bought some, It really is a lovely piece and reminds me of his strong design sense.

Re: Space invader mark
If you have a look at the Edward Hughes mark carefully-which I have just done. Both the edge of the H and E are curved in an arc. Very much like a space Invadhttps://www.20thcenturyforum.com/t19260-edward-hughes-1953-2006?highlight=hughesers blob!

Hi Philpot,
If this is a duplicate response - apologies!!!
I shouldn’t be surprised but I think you are on the money and I agree.
I would never have come up with him but well thanks and if we do ever meet up I owe you a pint or three
Best

Re: Space invader mark
Good evening Philpot,
Having compared the marks and after feeling confident about the attribution I am now not so sure.
There appears to be a consistent dot in between / above the two legs which I can’t reconcile with the known comparator ….sadly!

Re: Space invader mark
Where did you buy it? Some pottery stays close to home. Two marks would b.e unusual for Edward Hughes I must admit. Never seem him use a pottery mark. Jim Malone was a very great friend of his.

There is only one mark on each of the plates I just put them all together in one photograph so the it was easier to compare rather than looking at one mark on one plate then another …all four of what is clearly the same mark are together.
I bought them from an auction in Islington.

these four. Criterion are a bit of a hit and miss auctioneers. Probably a dead there. Rich cosmopolitan area of London tho. Could they be International?

Re: Space invader mark
I bought a few lots from there including a KPB, Richard Batterham, Kato, Dodd et al ….presumably all from the same vendor and also from Kensington.philpot wrote:https://bid.criterionauctioneers.com/past-auctions/criter11243/lot-details/36238c9c-a909-433e-957f-b19b00e2385f

They look British to me with Japanese influence …which is partly why I thought you were on the money with Edward Hughes
There was quite a bit of Japanese pottery though as well which I’m working through but that is hard work!!
