Port Ellen Isle of Skye has a famous whisky distillery. I wonder if these were souvenir/gift items associated with the distillery?

There's a reference from Frommer's Scotland, 8th Edition, 2004, to "Port Ellen Pottery, Port Ellen, which sells brightly colored goblets, jugs, mugs, and other functional wares daily from 10am to 5pm"
Although there's no further reference so it may now be closed. No mention who the potter was.

That’s great, Naomi, at least I now know there was a pottery there! I’ll do a little more digging.

Not sure they would have sold pottery, I would have expected glass/crystal - but thank you for the pointer to Port Ellen distillery, it took me on a long and interesting detour through the world of ‘silent’ distilleries and the enormous sums of money paid for their remaining stock as it is drip fed into the market…..philpot wrote:Port Ellen Isle of Skye has a famous whisky distillery. A number of Scottish distilleries commission stoneware flasks from local potteries for limited edition runs of their whiskey for sale to tourists
