In response to increasing competition apparently. They did the same in Germany last year and it was successful. Mind you of course, this being Ebay there might be something else in the small print. Interesting develelopment tho.

As I am registered as a Business seller on there, I got a message too but it added that in Germany it attracted new sellers, who spent more on eBay than people that didn't sell and so it helped Business sellers. It also stated that business sellers, who were pretending to be private sellers would be advised to become business sellers but they have had a duty to do this for some time.
I take what they say with a "pinch of salt" as the bottom line they are only in it to maximise their profits.

As a long time seller on ebay I was getting 100 free listings anyway, with various weekend and bankholiday offers to list items for free - not that I took them up on the offers most times. Seems they've now rolled this out for everyone. Certainly makes life a tiny bit easier for sellers but what's the betting they'll put their sales fees up to 15% soon - edited to say, I see they already charge up to 15.55% on some sales

I think you have both maybe got it wrong. By 'transaction fees' Ebay seem to mean selling as well. To quote from the relevant e-mail.
'Transaction fees were paid when your item sells. We are removing these fees, meaning selling is now free. This applies for both new and existing listings.'
It does not apply to certain areas like Motors. They are also introducing a varying fee in buying. So basically they are shifting the payment onus on to the buyer from the seller.
Personally I do not use Ebay for selling now. The little niggling costs here and there added up to significant slice of the final total you got. It just used to be a few bits and pieces. Whether I can be bothered in the future, I dunno!
