Re: THE MAAK WINTER TOP END STUDIO CERAMICS SALE
Hi phipot, A great looking sale, i am not sure if i will be buying though but there are a couple of interesting items i might take a punt at. This sale is in complete contrast to the Partridge one online. The sale at Woolly's has an interesting piece of John Ward coming up in December.

Re: THE MAAK WINTER TOP END STUDIO CERAMICS SALE
Partridge and Maak are two different markets really tho. Partridge is a pile 'em high and sell 'em fast. with low reserves sorta old fashioned auction. But it works though. He getS good prices and people are attracted to sell at his auctions. Its also impressive, as most of the studio pottery sales are down South. Macclesfield is not the sort of place you normally associate with a big Art market auctioneer.
Maak is a different kettle of fish of course. High end and high prices, and she has built a significant clientele who are specifically attracted to her auctions.
Both have been doing it for well over a decade. You have to admire them.

I also think you have to admire both , they have sewn up their respective markets and have made it virtually impossible for others to follow in their steps in any real way. The MAAK sales fill very quickly and they limit the amount of pots on offer depending on the potter and have a fixed lower price for entry ,whereas Partridge will sell almost anything, both have their merits.

There was an article on Maak in the upmarket magazine Homes and Gardens latest issue. An interesting read while I was waiting for my wife to finish her shopping in M&S.
