I rarely buy wooden objects but I’ve wanted this urushi chawan by husband and wife team, Takahashi McGil, since New Ashgate Gallery had an exhibition of their work earlier this year. Thankfully they continued to display the items when the exhibition ended.
Urushi is a lacquer, but they also char the surface

A couple more items with the urushi finish. The photos don’t show how black they are in real life; easily mistaken for Japanese raku or metal
