Re: Alan Wallwork
Below are pictures of both sides of one of Alan's "Handbags" as they were jokingly called. The label was stuck on by Alan and it is from his own personal collection and featured in Mick Casson 1967 book, Pottery in Britain Today. I stored it for several years.
it was made 1959/60.

Re: Alan Wallwork
It's the man's birthday today. The books say 84 but he's decided he's 85.

They weren't all marked anyway, especially if they have cork backing.
Here is one with cork removed

Taken out of cheese-boards, all unmarked. Round blank is Johnson's, square blanks
are Pilkington's.

Re: Alan Wallwork
Never seen anything by Alan that colour and can't really see the mark clearly. Can you highlight it or describe?

Re: Alan Wallwork
There are two "warrior forms" from his Greenwich period on the .info website that have a similar colour and decoration, which does point to this being OK.
Mr. W lurks on that well known auction site so might well send you a message.

Alan Wallwork
Hello, I have recently purchased this heavy (almost 2 pounds) pottery cube here in California, USA. It is signed with a paper tag from Bloomingdales, and also states Made in England as pictured. It has an incised mark of a stylized "B, W, or M" depending on which way you turn the pot within the shallow carved out foot on verso. It measures 3" in height by 3.75" square. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated! Kind regards, Lisa

Looks/sounds like Alan Wallwork.
Can you post a picture of the base please to be sure?
Picture of that label would be useful too please.

Re: Alan Wallwork
It dates from the 1960s when there was an exchange of work of this kind between large department stores in the USA and Heals in London, who stocked work by Alan and other studio potters of the time.

Re: Alan Wallwork
This vase is about 6" tall and has the familiar AW on the base.
Is it one of Alan's 1960s pieces?

Re: Alan Wallwork
It's late 1960s possibly early 1970s and, if my memory serves me correctly, it's porcelain. I don't think he did many.

Re: Alan Wallwork
Thanks, SP
Yes, and with it being slab-built it's quite heavy for a piece of porcelain.

Re: Alan Wallwork
I got it from Alan in 2003 when he was clearing out some old stock but it was stored away by me for years after that. It seems to have travelled in the last few years!
