Michael Casson salt glaze jug. If I remember rightly, a lot of this collection came from the estate sale of Harry Horlock Stringer's wife.

Large Pot bellied salt glaze vase  from Michael Casson. This was the type of vase that he was especially famous for. From the same auction sale as a bove.

I'm sure this is by Michael Casson, can anyone confirm?  I know the mark is similar to David Constantine White but his mark seems to be more circular.

The market in Michael Casson is quite choosy, which indicates a small pool of collectors. The Salt glaze wide bellied jugs sell well, as do the tall ones. Equally the modern sgraffito bowls known as the 'swimmers' do well. But as you say Naomi, chargers tend to be less popular. Another place to look at for prices is Maak, a high end online studio pottery auction house. Just Google it.

casson - Mick & Sheila Casson - Page 2 Empty Saltglaze lugg eared pot with illegible mark - Sheila Casson

Post by terryr October 16th 2020, 9:15 am

This little saltglaze pot stands 8½cm tall. It has a maker's mark (see side-on photo), but it's unreadable. The base has three stilt marks. The other sides are pretty much the same as those shown in the photos, except for glaze variations. Any help with identifying the maker would be much appreciated.

Davee's Wobage marked pots are interesting. They were only used for the first two years at Wobage, 1977-79. It was only from 1979 that he started the Stoneware and Salt glazing for which he is famed for. Very much a transition mark.
