Re: Barry Leighton-Jones
can't shed any light on the Mr Shabner, but thought i'd just share with you all a painting that my husband bought as a local auction, from the 1960s. It's by the artist Leighton-Jones and is from his series of Urchin pictures. This gives me the creeps because of those Crying Boy urban myths of the 1980s so i've made him put it facing the wall until we can sell it on.
Re: Barry Leighton-Jones
I have a print by Barry Leighton-Jones too but it's nothing like yours BB - it's a print of a 60s looking topless lady - Lottie thinks it's 'innappropriate' (her word!).
I'll get it photographed and posted up here then we can move them both to a Leighton-Jones thread.

Re: Barry Leighton-Jones
i'd say a picture of topless lady in her 60s was possibly "inappropriate" too
Re: Barry Leighton-Jones
unless the owner of the picture was also in the 'Autumn Years'

Re: Barry Leighton-Jones
i'm not sure a 60s looking male does it for me either - although it hasn't stopped that Iggy Pop rockstar bloke flaunting his body on that tv advert (can't remember what it was for).
Re: Barry Leighton-Jones
It was for insurance - funnily enough the insurance company don't cover rockstars.
I love Iggy/Iggy and the Stooges but can't be doing with seeing Iggy live after seeing him several years ago stripped to the waist (which let's face it is bad enough) and with a fondness for self-mutiliation - razor blades on the chest - horrid! I suppose I should consider myself fortunate he didn't get his winky out on stage (another one of his favourite pastimes!)

Re: Barry Leighton-Jones
there was an urban myth that if you had a picture of a crying child in your house, some kind of disaster would befall you - usually that your house would burn down. The Sun newspaper ran a series of stories following the Curse of the Crying Child
Re: Barry Leighton-Jones
Oh thanks - I'd never heard that before.
No smoking on the sofa until its gone then!
