Kenneth Townsend
Kenneth Townsend (1931-1999) artist and illustrator, brother of Dennis Townsend of Rye and Iden Pottery fame. Here are some screenprinted tiles from the Menagerie series - some of these designs were used on other merchandise including textiles and games.

I've always absolutely loved that cow, nice to see it again. I think that's the most 70s image I can possibly think of!

Yes it's one of my favourites too - there were nearly 30 designs in this series.

Yes he did - you're right! He illustrated a few children's books, he even wrote and illustrated one of his own stories - the animals have also been used in some children's games and on the odd teatowel or two.

By the way, the tiles designs are screenprinted onto H & R Johnson blanks - they're not Rye or Iden as is sometimes suggested.
