Re: Guy Sydenham
I would think it was made between 1968 and 1986 on Green Island,

Re: Guy Sydenham
I noticed today there is a poor quality pot for sale on ebay which has been stamped with Guy's Gs stamp and also a JB stamp. it is advertised as a Guy Sydenham piece but buyers beware when the JB stamp is present

Are the ones marked JB by the guy who started or finished off a load of Guy's pots? There were a load on eBay a few months ago.

Re: Guy Sydenham
yes but at least he admitted he had worked on those pieces (Guy was almost blind when they were produced)

Re: Guy Sydenham
These were done by John Benfield, from Leicester, who I knew very well,
He and his wife Jenny did the small, invaluable book on the Poole stoneware
sculptures and all the animals.
Yes Guy could still throw good pots when almost blind, and John would decorate
them for him.

Re: Guy Sydenham
yes I also know John but my point is that he has sold these pots over the years and explained his own roll in the production process but now they are being sold on without that information.

Re: Guy Sydenham
One rule I have is never to buy coffee pots but I loved the shape.
Is it 1968 to 1988?

Re: Guy Sydenham
Very Nice SP,I can't remember seeing one before and I haven't missed an auction of his pottery in many years.
The mark between the mallards feet is the Long Island mark so the coffee pot was made between 1955 and 1968
Guy always tried to improve on designs to make every day items function better so it should be perfectly balanced and pour without spillage

Re: Guy Sydenham
Earlier than I thought. I'll photograph the inside of the lid, which I think is interesting.

Re: Guy Sydenham
So this is the inside of the coffee pot lid with two different sized indents. I assume you could turn to suit the speed at which you wished to pour from the pot, if that makes sense.

Re: Guy Sydenham
yes that's exactly the sort of improvement he incorporated into utilitarian pottery
