Oriental style vases - stamped mark
I have searched high and low on this and haven't come across anything remotely similar in shape - does anyone recognise this or the stamped mark which I cannot make out at all. I am not sure if it is a picture or is an oriental character mark of some sort.
I'm not even sure that it isn't this century rather than last. So any help very much appreciated.
The blue one is just over 12" high and the brown one about 8 1/2".
Many thanks

Re: Oriental style vases - stamped mark
Do you think these might be, or be representing at least, water carriers? m

Re: Oriental style vases - stamped mark
It is a water carrying vase for transporting around the house and maybe for use in the Tea Ceremony.
I don't know what the mark says but the glazing in very odd and not in any traditional Japanese style that I recognise.
I suspect it was made as a decorative piece for display and to appeal to the contemporary Japanese buyer. Like your Arita pieces this is made fairly recently.

Thanks again! I appreciate your help :)
They are fab as a display piece because of their size, but I'll now start using them for flowers.
