Help ID mid-century ceramic mirror
Hello,
I'm new to this forum and have searched many of the subjects and am hoping that the knowledgeable people here can help me find out who made this beautiful mirror.
The graphic design definitely feels mid-century; I'm thinking American studio. It also has a Raul Coronel feel but I have yet to find a signature, although I haven't taken the time to pull the backing off to see if there is a signature hiding there. But if anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.
Thank you,
ejohnson

Re: Help ID mid-century ceramic mirror
it has that Scandinavian look to it mixed with Central American so Raul is a prime suspect

Re: Help ID mid-century ceramic mirror
This looks like a wonderful item, but I am fairly certain this piece is not by Raul Coronel. The cut out pattern is way too intricate and the design seems a bit "busy" for his style. I have the catalog from Raul's studio in the 1960's and there are no mirror frames shown. He did custom work not included in the catalog, but these were usually large commissioned pieces such as fountains, tile murals, and sculptures (both abstract and figural). He once told me he signed "everything" he made, but has since recanted when I showed him an unsigned piece that he admitted was his (he then signed it for me). I speak with him often and the next time I am in contact, I will ask him to take a look. Personally, I wouldn't be able to resist removing the backing to see if there is a signature. If it were by him, it would signed "raul" in lower case script, with a 2 digit date designation.
BTW-what is the size?

Re: Help ID mid-century ceramic mirror
Thank you all so much! The size is about 24" diameter. And I think I will pull that backing off today; it's just that the item is SO heavy I need to get help to do that.
Thanks again and I'll report back if I find any signature.

UPDATE!! HELP ID MID-CENTURY CERAMIC MIRROR
I finally found the signature. There is a picture attached (not a very good one, sorry).
But these are the things I think it says: "meyer", "mayer", "mayur", "magur". There is also either: "80", "30", or "BO" below it and I think there is a small copyright ('c' in circle) above the signature.
Any help is great appreciated.
Thank you,
Erin

Re: Help ID mid-century ceramic mirror
can you get a close up of the signature without casting a shadow Erin?

Re: Help ID mid-century ceramic mirror
I'll do my best. It's a concave surface and when I use my flash it washes it out. But I'll try and report back. Thanks.
