with no signature or mark it may prove difficult to tie it down to a particular potter

Re: Ken Scotcher - Totland pottery (Isle of Wight)
wondered if this was produced after death of Ken Scotcher in 1990, did pottery continue?

Re: Ken Scotcher - Totland pottery (Isle of Wight)
This is an unusual mark indeed.
The pottery closed when Ken Scotcher retired in 1987.
I think there is little doubt that it's a Ken Scotcher piece due to the style of design.
The "Jo IoW" mark with the word "Totland" was used until Ken went solo in late 1958.
After most commonly was the IOW map (a slightly different version) with KAS in the middle (no IoW initials).
So I can see two possibility's for this mark:
1. The "Jo" part was somehow missed when being stamped, it does look like there is room for "Jo" above the "IoW" as would have been usual for this mark.
2. It's a transitional mark between the periods when Jo was still working under Joe Lester's guidance and when he went solo.
So personally I'd say this is a Ken Scotcher piece made around 1958.

Definitely a Scotcher piece, the band of scraffito round the pot is a common pattern he
used. The IOW book says "variations occur" with the Jo/KAS marks, so it must be one
of those.
