Can anybody tell me what this is ? Inkwell maybe !
I bought this small object today, it is 6cms tall and 10cms wide, it is black, yellow, and turqouise in colour and has a dull glaze, Ithink it is made of china as it is fairly light in weight. The only mark I can see is ENGLAND impressed on the base. Ithought it might be an inkwell for quill pens. Does anyone have any ideas of age or use. Thanks.

Certainly wouldn't think it had anything to with ink, purely decorative I would say .

Sorry, I forgot to mention it has nine holes in the top, and it is hollow inside, as if it's meant to hold something. I'm sure it has a purpose but you may be right Ed.

It appears to have some age to it, I think a type of vase is the most logical suggestion, because you could fill it with water and push the flower stems into the holes. (if anyone ever buys me some flowers, possibly tulips, I'll try it out).

They'd have to be flowers with very thin stems to fit in the holes, I'm not fussy though.

Another excellent suggestion bistoboy, I'm sure sooner or later someone will come up with a absolute definative answer. My sister reckons it might be for burning incense sticks.
Thanks.
Thanks.
