California Blue-Green serving piece with small pitcher, Some markings.
I recently bought this at a moving sale and it has markings but search and search online and I can not seem to figure out who made it or how old it may be beyond the fact that it is from California. I am not even completely certain that the tiny pitcher it came with belongs with the serving tray at all, or for that matter what the tray is designed to hold. Any insights would be helpful. I included a ruler in the pictures to help make the dimensions of the pieces clear.

The two pieces are certainly not a set and are likely from two different manufacturers. The floral piece is a server for nuts or candies. It is likely from the 1930's-40's. Unfortunately, "Made in California" was a generic phrase used by dozens of companies, so IDing it from that is virtually impossible. My best guess is "Knowles, Taylor & Knowles" (KTK) as the style and glaze seem consistent with their output. Another possibility is "Haldeman" (but my money is on KTK). Perhaps the best book for this kind of stuff is "Jack Chipman's California Pottery Scrapbook" (but these pieces are not in it).
As for the creamer, I haven't a clue.

Thank you for the help! I had suspected the two pieces didn't belong together even though they were sold to me that way. I go to a lot of garage and estate sales and until recently I had been focused on clothing and jewelry from the 50s-70s but I have started to get interested in more pottery and decorative art pieces. Unfortunately, I know a lot less about what I'm looking for in that area. I bought them because I liked the color and didn't notice that the bottom was marked in a way that indicated some age until I got home.

The best way to learn more about the pottery you are coming across is to pick up a few books. There are several collector's books about California pottery and other regional companies, periods and styles; most will give value estimates (which should be considered with current market conditions at any given time). Other sources of information are auction catalogs such as Rago Auctions and Treadway (both USA) which are loaded with pictures, auction estimates and sale prices. Even ebay is of value for the wide variety of material listed, desirability and rock-bottom sale prices. Cheers and carry on!
