Ditmar-Urbach (Czech Pottery)
Hi
I think this piece of Czech Pottery is by Ditmar Urbach and in Sharons' Medley Pattern, but its mising the Ditmar Urbach Mark just says Czechoslovakia Hand-painted and with the mould number 10213. I have managed to confirm that this mould shape is one used by the Urbach factory but not as yet the date it was used 20's - 30's? The only other mark on the base is either a '3', an incomplete 'B', a curvy 'E' or a curvy 'm' ( you decide from the pic ) The hand painted design looks very similar to Sharons Medley as found on a couple of websites but the blue crescent within the centre of the flower is present in another unamed pattern attributed to Ditmar. So I was wondering if there is anyone here who is familiar enough with his work to confirm if my ID is accurate or if is simply 'in the style of'?
thanks for any of your input

Re: Ditmar-Urbach (Czech Pottery)
Hi BigEd,
may i ask why Ditmar - Urbach ?
Do you mind posting a base shot ?
My vase was originally bought in Denmark
I have the vase for about 10 years and didn´t find anything alike.
No hints to the maker.

Re: Ditmar-Urbach (Czech Pottery)
I have had four different ones in the past , some have been marked like yours with the three lines, one stamped Ditmar Urbach Czecholsolvakia
This one has a moulded number ,they call them alianware as some pieces do resemble Aliens

Re: Ditmar-Urbach (Czech Pottery)
Spotted one today at Hungerford Arcade. Dealer didn't know what it was and just labelled it 'studio pot with interesting crackle glaze', or words to that effect. I don't think the cream glaze with the beige lines really qualifies as crackle glaze.
Only aound £26 on the ticket. Even though there's one listed on ebay for $150 I wasn't tempted, it's really not to my taste.

Base marks are often unclear or rubbed off entirely, others have moulded marks .

The pieces resembling aliens are the most desirable with collectors of this stuff .

Ditmar Urbach
Hi;
Your Flowered Vase is Ditmar Urbach produced in the Teplitz factory.
This is not Sharon's Medley pattern, as coined in the book "Czechoslovakian Pottery, Czeching out America"
The piece was produced in the late 1920's -30's

Re: Ditmar-Urbach (Czech Pottery)
vhb64;
Your piece does look like a Ditmar Urbach Alien piece, BUT I must say the mold is not one I have ever seen, and the outer glaze is different.
Unless the mold number corresponds with a form listed in the catalogs, you can find one with a bottom marking, or have one in a hand-painted version you cannot be positive.

This Ditmar-Urbach jug came into the shop recently. Certainly brightened the place up for a while.

European and not British, Brin. I'm sure someone will be able to ID as it looks familiar.
