Re: Random pottery questions and answers thread!
To be honest it would probably help his sales if anything. I like to read a bit from a book to make my mind up if it's worth buying, hard to do when buying online usually.

Re: Random pottery questions and answers thread!
It is by far the best book for anyone who wants to know who the most important studio potters in Britain were during the 20th century and to give sufficent information for you to be able to identify a pot by one of them should you come across it.
As with any book, you might wish to add and subtract one or two names but that will always be the case.

Ordered
From the sample pages on Amazon, looks like it is exactly what I was after. Basically I wanted Yates Owen with the not so good / not so popular makers cropped out and more info (and marks) on the remaining potters.
Play seems to be the cheapest place to order it at the moment. Cost me £20.71

Re: Random pottery questions and answers thread!
When it first came out I used to buy it wholesale to resell and the wholesale price to me then was £19.46 per copy so it is a bargain.

Re: Random pottery questions and answers thread!
Did they sell well?
I would have thought in a studio pottery gallery it would do really well.
Most good books are around £35-40 it seems, so by comparison, should be a good buy. Guess this had a retail of around £40 when it came out?

Re: Random pottery questions and answers thread!
The rrp was £29.95 in 2002 and I sold around 25 copies. I could have sold more but once most of my customers who wanted a copy had one I stopped getting it in.

Re: Random pottery questions and answers thread!
£20.73 well spent in terms of pottery books, in my opinion

Re: Random pottery questions and answers thread!
If you're looking for the more technical stuff, i.e techniques, glazing etc. Try trawling the charity shops i've picked up some good buys that are a mine of info, l recently picked up 'Illustrated Dictionary of Practical Pottery' by Robert Fournier for 50p. Its packed with everthing you could ever want to know. Another good one I have is 'Ceramics A Potters Handbook' by Glenn C Nelson it was published in the 60's and features lots of examples of contempory studio pottery.

Re: Random pottery questions and answers thread!
An "old" favorite of mine is Practical Pottery and Ceramics by Kenneth Clark - published in the 1960s by Studio Vista.
