Re: John Maltby
They seem to be a bit of a mystery, I checked with Martin Browne but he can't shed any light on them either. I did email the Yew tree Gallery before Xmas but so far I haven't had a reply.
All the best,
Nigel

I think Yew Tree gallery closes in the winter months. It is in the very far end of Cornwall. Which is very quiet in the winter months,

John Maltby exhibition at Yew Tree Gallery closes on the 15th June. I think most of the items have been sold

Re: John Maltby
Nice piece. Judging from the use of the brown glaze and the decoration. I would guess that was a piece from the early 70's.

Unmarked bowl with cross, dot and flower decoration - John Maltby
A punt off eBay. Unmarked. Described as “guaranteed to be a genuine and vintage David Winkley piece”. I’ve asked the seller why they think it’s by him when it looks very like a John Maltby piece. Awaiting their reply.
Could it be by anyone else? David Melville has decorated some pieces with a red cross similar to Maltby but nothing like this. I’m pretty sure it’s a Maltby.

Yup, I knew I'd seen this decoration on his pots before

Re: John Maltby
Definitely John Maltby! Stylistically though its very interesting. It looks quite early in his change from straight Leach type Stoneshill stuff to more decorative work. It looks earlier than than the pieces in Aberystwyth which are early 80's. Mid 70's again maybe?

Re: John Maltby
Yes, could be 70s. Pieces with this decoration have the SP stamp for Stoneshill so probably decorating his standard ware rather than one off pieces

Re: John Maltby
Lovely Naomi! We seem to be getting a proliferation of his early 1980's style on here.
John Maltby has for a long time been one of the most popular of studio potters. One can understand why! His style changed so much in his career. Its like collecting 3/4 potters in one.

When that gallery first started out it was known as Godfrey & Twatt but for some reason they dropped the T from the second surname.
