Broadstone pottery ,Poole Dorset
can anyone tell me if they know of a potter by the name Stone (possibly initial B) who has worked for the Poole factory? i've been looking at a figure which is has an incised mark of that name and Poole. Can't find anything, either for Poole Pottery, CSA, or Carters.

Janet Stone wasn't a potter but she worked at Poole in 1973 on the stoneware animal production

a bust of a woman seated on a corinthian column (in two parts, not moulded as one piece)
Re: Broadstone pottery ,Poole Dorset

Re: Broadstone pottery ,Poole Dorset
no, was a creamy white coloured glaze. doesn't matter now though because my Other Half wouldn't buy it for me. It was the last lot in a very large auction sale at Chichester today, and he wouldn't wait to the end for me.

the auction's ended, so i hope you won't mind me putting a link.

Re: Broadstone pottery ,Poole Dorset
This will say B'Stone, short for Broadstone which is an area of Poole. It is not Poole Pottery although often (mis)-sold as such. Wall plaques come up fairly regularly though I've not seen this figure before.
There was a Broadstone Pottery between 1928 - 1934 that is mainly known for the Joyous range but I don't think it has ever been proven that this is from the same pottery. Seems right for that time though.

Re: Broadstone pottery ,Poole Dorset
thanks for that info Gareth. Not being a Poole pottery collector myself, i had thought it was by Poole, so glad that you have cleared that up for me. And, i guess, glad that my partner didn't buy it for me, as the reserve of £50 may have been it's full value?
Re: Broadstone pottery ,Poole Dorset
Yes, it looks a nice enough piece in it's own right but most of the value for these pieces seem to come from the Poole Pottery mis-attribution!
Having said I hadn't seen this figure before the only other piece I can find in a quick Google is this figure, without the base. £30 as part of a job lot.
