Huge Ironstone Tankard / Mug
Any ideas please? Is this called gaudy Welsh? It just says Ironstone China on base. I thought that Ironstone was pottery - not china. Thank you.

This is not high enough quality to be Masons, it will be one of the cheaper copies with a (deliberately) very similar mark that followed after Mason's success. Probably impossible to pin to a specific maker. If it was Masons it would say Masons Patent Ironstone, the decoration would be much finer and the mark wouldn't be smudged.
Ironstone is a form of earthenware. The iron bit was probably a marketing ploy to suggest it was tough but it does contain China Stone.
